Best Places to Take Your UConn Graduation Photos

Best Places to Take Graduation Photos at the University of Connecticut (Storrs Campus)

Are you getting ready to graduate from the University of Connecticut? I’m a Connecticut graduation photographer and UConn is one of my absolute favorite places to photograph graduating seniors. The UConn Storrs campus is stunning and filled with plenty of perfect locations you’ll want to take photos at during your graduation photoshoot. I’ve chosen 6 of my favorite locations to share with you today:

  1. Jonathan the Husky statue

  2. Outside Gampel Pavilion

  3. Wilbur Cross

  4. Horsebarn Hill

  5. Jacobson Barn

  6. UConn wordmark sign

Read on to see why I think you absolutely MUST shoot at these spots during your UConn graduation photos and to see example photos to get inspiration for your own graduation photo session!

1. Jonathan the Husky statue

The Jonathan the Husky statue outside Gampel Pavilion is a staple of the UConn Storrs campus and should definitely be memorialized in your grad photos. There are so many fun ways to pose with the husky statue; give Jonathan a big hug, kiss him on the cheeks, sit on top of him… you can definitely personalize this spot to make it your own!

Plus, don’t forget to rub the Jonathan statue’s nose one last time for good luck after you graduate!! This makes for a great shot too ;)

2. Outside Gampel Pavilion

The amazing success of the UConn basketball team means Gampel Pavilion is a well-recognized name. Show off that you went to UConn and got to attend basketball games in this famous space by capturing some photos of you outside of Gampel Pavilion! Standing outside the front entrances to the stadium allows you to get that iconic name in the background of your photos. These UConn grad photos will be so fun to show off to your friends, family, and future coworkers!

3. Wilbur Cross Building

In my opinion, the Wilbur Cross building should be the next stop on your itinerary for UConn grad photos because of how picturesque it is. The outside of the building provides a great academic feel and gives a campus vibe to the photos. Plus, I’m sure if you’re a UConn student you’ve spent lots of time in this building, whether it’s to study or just to grab a coffee at Crossroads Cafe. Grab some photos in the courtyard outside the building on your way over, and– if it’s not finals week– you can even grab some indoor photos in the gorgeous Wilbur Cross South Reading Room.

4. Horsebarn Hill

It wouldn’t be a UConn graduation photo session without a stop at the beautiful Horsebarn Hill! I love taking UConn grad photos at Horsebarn Hill because there are so many amazing spaces to utilize. You can climb the hill and grab beautiful sunset photos, or take some classic photos on Horsebarn Hill Road. The views of campus that you can capture behind you are incredible, and there’s plenty of space to spread out if there are other UConn students taking graduation photos at the same time as you.

5. Jacobson Barn

After you finish up at Horsebarn Hill, head over to the Jacobson Barn. This building is another UConn classic and the red barn provides a great background for some graduation photos that highlight YOU. You can also peek around the side of the barn and capture some of the field behind you. Since UConn is known for being an agricultural school, taking photos at the Jacobson Barn is a great testament to another thing UConn prides itself on.

6. UConn Wordmark Sign

I love ending graduation sessions at the recently installed UConn sign right as you drive into campus along Route 195. There are so many photo options at this sign; you can sit in the “U” or the “O” letter or stand at the edge of the sign and grab a cool shot with the letters in the background. I also love this spot for a champagne pop to commemorate the end of your UConn grad photos! This fun UConn landmark feels like a perfect place to finish up your graduation photos right as the sun begins to set. If you stay late enough, you might even be able to grab some photos of the letters lit up in blue!

I hope this list is helpful to any upcoming University of Connecticut graduate or Connecticut graduation photographer as they prepare for a UConn grad photoshoot!
